I thought the tire person standing up in front of us and bad-mouthing Ken was pretty bad. The other side of the story indicates that the person making poor business decisions was the speaker. He was not invited by the track to talk to everyone on Saturday. He came up on his own. If anyone has any doubts about what really happened and what was said by Ken I think you should ask Ken for his side of the story. It is much more believeable.

Clark, who is against changing the rule, impartially approached the Stock 4's several months ago as there was some interest in these tires. The response was a resounding "leave the rule as it is".

On a humorous note did anyone else notice the tire guy frothing at the mouth?

No getting around it,that tire guy was a genuine asshole. If he has a problem with Ken then he should have approached Ken with his issues as opposed to try "back-dooring" Ken by going directly to the drivers.
As an interesting footnote, does anyone wonder which driver might have contacted the tire guy to try to get the tires allowed?I know who my guess is.

There is nothing wrong with sunbaked junk, that is all I have been using for over ten years.
But now some big mouthed over opinionated car owner has decided that HE wants to spend money on sticky tires,so I guess he automatically figures that everyone else would also like to spend money on sticky tires.Sorry, but my fuel costs have already doubled this year,no cash left for tires, not that I would buy them anyway.
The world is filled with too many idiots and as my mama once told me,

"you cant fix STUPID"

Interestingly, the phone call to the rabid tire guy probably would not have resulted in any new sales but if the rule changed it would allow someone's existing tires to be used. I do not know all the details but when John Ince's car was sold some of these tires went with it. I do know that the call came from there. I do not know any details about the nature of the call or what the desired result of the information would be. I do know the call was just an inquiry for information and not an attempt to have them made legal. I suspect that the person that made the call was probably given some BS story about how these tires would be legal and was given wrong information that would pit both sides against the middle.
Tire Guy lied to everyone and said that he received calls from a "couple of drivers" but was called by one car owner and no drivers.
Ken was "assured 100%" by Tire Guy that these tires met Varney's rules. Ken told Tire Guy that IF his tires met Varney's rules he would stock some so the guys could buy them at the track. Ken said there is no way he would agree to have the Stock 4's committed to one tire and an expensive tire at that. Ken figures he would lose at least five cars if Tire Guy had his way.
Rabid Tire Guy and his sidekick showed up on their own accord and were not invited to the track or to speak to the drivers by Ken.
On a positive note, Tire Guy and his puppet paid $18.00 each to get in and then left in a huff. Ken got to keep their $36.00!
Adam, you need to talk directly to Ken to ge the whole and accurate story. I only know pieces of the story and it would be too easy to put these pieces together and get the wrong impression of what happened.

That guy was so unprofessional.

Say we have our driver's meeting at christmas and decide to allow the tires he was trying to sell us. I'll be really surprised if we choose to buy them from him after the fuss he made on saturday- I'm sure there's other sources we could get them from.

I just really wanted to club him over the head with my hillbilly bucket and be done with it.

Why would you want to help him? Clubbing him might knock some sense into him! Or in the case of your Hillbilly bucket - knock some cents into him.
The guy brings a new meaning to the word "dickhead".
And I was worried the moderator would edit my post when I said the guy was frothing at the mouth! :D

I have no problem allowing some leeway when it is required,or appropriate

btw,Ken is probably right on about losing 5 cars over a spec tire.I can think of 2 for sure..................and I already have a stack of those tires in my garage.

The way you drive the Scirocco should use tires from airplane landing gear! That was meant as an fun insult as I know your flying escapades were the fault of "our favorite cheater from last year" on the first occasion and "Marlene" on the second!

Well, to get technical, the first time I flew was in the golf, then dad got jealous and decided he should give it a try.

Speaking of Marlene- who's jumping behind the wheel now that his job has taken him to Alberta?

I thought they said the older brother of #5 Jonathon Bailey. After talking to their parents a few weeks ago I didn't think the older boy, whose name I have forgotten, was interested in driving. I will ask in a couple of weeks. I wonder if all the Stock 4 drivers realize next Saturday is a day off. I hope they don't show up and the track decides to run them and award points!

I am opposed to the sticky tires as we have a lot of drivers who use used tires. Also by allowing sticky tires that is just the first part in a long list of what drivers will then want. You get a better tire than you will want more suspension and it will not stop.My biggest beef with the people from Mettetech is that they were well aware of what our tire rule is as John-Ross personally called me at home and talked to me for at least half an hour about it and I told him they were not legal but he could come and talk to me at the swap meet.I must have done a good job of hiding as they never did show up.I was there long before anyone else, left after most people and was in plain view all day.John-Ross was also in my shop one day for about an hour at which time I also told him of the rule.So for them to come Saturday and try to pawn off their tires again kind of irked me the wrong way.At least he told me I was a s**t disturber ,but a darn good at it.

Better to be called a sh*t disturber than to actually be a liar! Like Tessa said, even if one day those tires were legal no one would want to buy them from him.
He did such a poor job of lying and talked out of both sides of his mouth. He tried to make Ken look bad and he tried to make Clark look bad. I wonder if his actions have made some people come to the wrong conclusions about how he got there or what the phone calls to him were really about.
Dennis has the correct description of the tire people!

My goodness all this from a person who missed his calling in life. Tire sales no way! My guess underwear sales, he's already full of crap.
Any person who comes in and lies and calls good people everything but honest { look in the mirror pal }.

Ok,I have figured out the perfect way to handle the tire situation.
Lets allow the 200 treadwear Falkens, heck lets make them the mandatory track tire.
But under no situation are you allowed to purchase them from mettetech or any of their sister companies.
Is that not the perfect solution?? :D

BTW Grasshopper, where did you hide the tires marked
"GOLF ONLY, DENNIS DRIVING" ?????

I think this thread from a few months ago sums things up nicely:
http://www.sapphire-motorsports.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25

This thread was posted right after the swap meet,so I am guessing that the mettetech meatballs were well aware at that point what our tire situation was.Unreal!
